Family Photography Services

A funny thing happened to me when I became a dad.  As soon as my two boys became old enough to show their personalities and share their opinions, it became harder and harder for me to get the kind of photos I wanted to have of my family.  I would see a moment that I really wanted to capture for future memories, but as soon as I would pull out my camera, the moment would vanish into thin air.  My boys would either change their expressions or they would get annoyed with me for no longer playing with them.

This happened often enough that I found myself thinking, “If it’s this frustrating for me to get authentic pictures of my kids, what must it be like for all the parents out there who are not professional photographers?”

This is when I realized that I had something to offer – that my photojournalistic style of photography, which works so well for documenting weddings, is perfect for families as well.  No more dreading the trip to the portrait studio, hoping and praying that your kids don’t melt down.  No more trying to get everyone to smile at the same time (or even smile at all.)  No more pictures which too often look awkward or cheesy or forced.

Instead, my idea is to give you 2-3 hours at your favorite location, doing the activities that you want to do.  The whole point is to have fun, and I’m there to capture it all in true day-in-the-life fashion.  Imagine the water flying when your favorite little puddle-jumper scores a bull’s-eye, or the look of glee that comes from barreling down a favorite sledding hill.  Picture the concentration etched on your child’s face when he reads a new book, or the look of contented bliss as a newborn snuggles into her mother’s shoulder.

These are the kinds of images that you’ll find yourself looking back upon with fond wistfulness, as your kids grow up right before your eyes.  With my photography, I strive to tell your family’s story, one expression at a time.
