Family Photography FAQ's
Why 2-3 hours for a session?
I prefer to have a longer photo shoot for a few reasons. For starters, it simply takes a bit of time for everyone to get used to the camera. It’s human nature to be a bit self-conscious at first, but after a little while it gets easier to ignore the equipment, and that’s when the pictures start to really shine.
I also want to make time for kids to go through their typical full range of daily emotions. As every parent knows, even if it is sunny right now, there could be some fast-moving storms approaching just over the horizon. Having plenty of time built-in allows for possible tears and timeouts, not to mention the expected snacks and bathroom breaks.
Best of all, extra time lets us do more activities!
Do we (the parents) really have to be in the shoot?
There will be plenty of shots of just the kids amongst the whole set. But also remember, your child will be more comfortable having you play with them during the shoot and will be more likely to act their "natural" self.
Even more importantly, think of your own childhood snapshots, and how much more meaningful they become over time because your parents are in the pictures. You’re not only doing this yourself, but even more so for your children. Having photos of everyone together will be not only cherished right now, but they’ll be absolutely treasured in the future.
What should we wear?
Dress as you normally would for a day at play. Be comfortable first and foremost. Try to avoid bold patterns or stripes if possible – this will keep the focus of the picture on expressions and emotions. If you’re inclined to want to coordinate, then all I would suggest is to have everyone choose either light tones or dark tones. But if you are the type of person who cares more about having a record of what life was like at this time i n your lives, then let your kids wear their favorite clothes.
When will we be able to see the images?
Generally the images will be online within ten days of the shoot.
Is this only for young children?
Absolutely not. Families of all ages and arrangements are suitable. However you define your family, I’d be honored to spend a morning or afternoon photographing you and yours.
